Understanding Contact Statuses

Understand how contacts can opt in and out of receiving messages

To comply with carrier and messaging regulations, all contacts must have the ability to opt out of receiving messages at any time. Udext automatically supports this through standard STOP and START messaging functionality.

Compliance Message on First Contact

When you send your first message to a contact, they will receive a compliance message that includes important opt-out information.

This message reads:

"You've agreed to receive messages from [Company Name]. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to unsubscribe."

This ensures that all contacts are aware of how to manage their messaging preferences.

Opting Out (STOP)

At any time, a contact can reply with the word STOP to unsubscribe from receiving messages.

Once a contact opts out:

  • They will no longer receive any messages from your organization

  • Their status will be updated in the platform

Viewing Contact Subscription Status

You can view a contact’s subscription status at any time in the platform.

Navigate to the 'Contacts' tab and locate the 'Status' column.

Contacts who have opted out will be labeled red as 'Unsubscribed' and will not receive any messages.

Opting Back In (START)

If a contact would like to begin receiving messages again, they can reply with the word START.

Once they send START:

  • They will be resubscribed to messaging

  • They will be eligible to receive future communications

Why This Matters

Providing contacts with the ability to opt in and out is required for compliance with carrier regulations and helps ensure a positive communication experience.

This functionality protects both your organization and your contacts by maintaining transparent and consent-based messaging.
