Handling Unknown Contacts

Learn how to manage and respond to messages from contacts not yet saved in your system

Written by Jay Nasibov

With Udext, you can communicate with unknown contacts without needing to save them first. This makes it easier to respond quickly to incoming messages, even if the contact has not yet been added to your contact list.

Unknown contacts are automatically organized so you can review and manage them efficiently.

What are Unknown Contacts?

Unknown contacts are phone numbers that send messages to your Udext number but are not currently saved in your contact list.

Instead of missing these messages, Udext captures them and makes them available in your Inbox so you can review and respond as needed.

Where to Find Unknown Contacts

Navigate to the 'Inbox' tab in Udext and click on the 'Unknown' filter.

Here, you will see all messages from contacts that are not currently saved in your system.

Responding to Unknown Contacts

You can reply to unknown contacts directly from the Inbox, just like you would with any saved contact.

This allows you to engage in conversations without needing to first create a contact record.

Saving Unknown Contacts

If you would like to keep a record of the contact for future communication, you can save them to your contact list.

From the conversation view, click on the 'Add to Contacts' button in the top right.

Add the contact’s details (such as name or additional information), then save the contact to your system.

Once saved, the conversation will move out of the 'Unknown' filter and into your main Inbox.

Why This Matters

Handling unknown contacts allows you to:

  • Respond faster to inbound messages

  • Capture new contacts without interrupting your workflow

  • Ensure no messages are missed

This feature helps keep your communication seamless, even when new or unexpected contacts reach out.
